Description

by Sandra Fortier

Imagine growing up in Alpena, Michigan during the 1950’s and 1960’s as the only visually impaired student attending a small-town public school ill-equipped to meet your special needs. How would you navigate life’s roaring rapids?

See? is an inspirational autobiography that describes how God’s grace and the firm, loving support from family, friends, neighbors an exceptional teacher, and caring supervisors guided the author through life’s challenges. It also debunks common myths of blindness and discusses adaptive equipment used by the author on her journey.

  1. Mary

“Powerful”, “poignant”, “emotional” are expressions one will experience when reading this memoir of an amazing woman faced with adversity but accomplishing much through intelligence, gumption, and humor.

  2. Julie O.

Reading Sandra’s “See” will introduce you to an extraordinary woman who has lived her life in a sighted world though partially blind from birth. Through her story, you are with her as she grows up in a sighted world after time in an incubator left her partially blind. She attended public schools with her twin sister who was spared her sight, and her parents made no special accommodations for her handicap. Every task was more difficult for her, but she persevered always with a beaming smiling. Through the pages of her book, you will see how she excelled, graduated from college, and worked independently until retirement. You will not only be inspired but you will laugh at Sandra’s antics and zest for life. It’s a happy tale and teaches us that no handicap can stop us from having a fulfilling life.

  3. Nancy J Fezzey

“See?” is an informative, touching, witty memoir by a courageous woman who has journeyed through life with limited vision but “perfect sight” regarding focus, fortitude, and faith. I am humbly honored and blessed that God chose Sandra to be my sister!
